There are few private residences on resort property in Western Pennsylvania. The majority of private residences that do exist have suboptimal views, uneven terrain and are not located near the resort’s amenities. This home was designed by architect Kevin Hayes and built by Ric Davis as a private vacation retreat and is now being rented for the first time. Most rental properties attempt to optimize the owner’s profit through savings on construction materials, furnishings, and other amenities. However, this residence’s quality rivals that of 5-star accommodations and is sure to provide an unforgettable escape for you and your family.
This six-bedroom home can sleep up to 20 people comfortably and has been designed specifically to accommodate large vacationing groups. Please click here to see a detailed floor plan and description of the home.
The home is a three-acre property located within the quiet Stonewood development of Hidden Valley Resort. The main drive is a mile long cul-d-sac and housing is limited to a range of exclusive single-family homes, which are often entered through long private drives. The Stonewood development runs along a ridge and borders protected state forest for both privacy and scenic views. The house was sited such that almost all living areas have gorgeous views of the sunset and sunrise, the state forest, and the nearby Seven Springs Resort. Only a minimal amount of the forest was cleared, preserving the feel of the rugged terrain. From Spring through Fall, the forest bed is covered with thigh-high indigenous ferns. Massive boulders and mature deciduous trees make for extraordinary foliage as the leaves change in autumn.
The home itself is entered through a private drive with stone pillars marking entrance onto the property. The circular drive welcomes you to the front of the home while a side drive provides direct garage access. The orientation of the home combined with the liberal use of glass and skylights provides minimal disturbance of the area’s natural beauty. The home is three levels with exterior materials limited to mostly cedar, stone and glass. There is a two-sided, multi-level wrap around deck as well as a lower deck off of the ground floor family room. Many of the rooms have extensive floor to ceiling windows, thereby blurring the interior-exterior border and allowing guests to enjoy the classical rugged beauty of the mountains.
One can enter the home through two front entrances, the side garage, the rear ground floor deck, or steps to the rear first floor wrap around deck. All doors are 36-inches wide, allowing for handicapped access; however, both front entrances have a 6 to 8-inch step up.
